The thought of Ireland haunts me

I was inspired today by Lisa at Sunshine Travels and the daily post, to write about that one place I would love to go before it is too late. That place for me is Ireland. I can’t explain why. All of these years when the name ‘Ireland’ gets mentioned there is a sadness in my heart, a deep sadness inside that feels like… like I miss home and I can’t go back.

I envision it to be a very simple romantic place. The mist along the hundred-shades-of-green rolling hills, the smell of peat that lingers in your mind like your favorite men’s cologne, being surrounded by ghosts of a thousand years past, singing sad songs while having a pint in the local pub, and of course… the far off wail of the forlorn pipes….that is how I see Ireland. Maybe I have just seen too many movies…maybe it will not live up to my dreams, but there is only one way to find out.

  1. Make that some day, someday soon. In the end we regret what we didn’t do rather than what we did do. It may be different to the image in your mind’s eye, but different doesn’t necessarily mean bad.

  2. Me too. My sister has been, and brought home all these pictures and they were even greater than I imagined. We were supposed to go for our honeymoon but our marriage got moved up and our honeymoon was spent in the hospital. Maybe one day…

  3. Ireland IS a beautiful place, and it certainly does have all of the things you’ve listed. And it has more. It has cities, some dirty and crowded, but usually bursting with street musicians, great pubs and libraries that will knock your socks off. It has fantastic restaurants, and historic buildings and religious relics that will meld into every cell of your body. It is a place of tragedy and beauty, and most importantly, stories. Do try to get there. It is a worthy, wonderful country.

    • I will most definitely get there is just a matter of when. I have been trying to coordinate with the ‘other half’ has he has family there but seems to keep falling through the cracks. Maybe I will just schedule it and let him know what’s up (LOL)….
